Welcome to my blog. I have been a locksmith for over 30 years and I love my job. Like all jobs, it has its challenges but overall I love being able to help people feel safe in their homes and work places. The current company, Security Masters Ltd, was established in 1998 and we offer a 24 hour a day service, 365 days of the year.

Security Masters Ltd Director Mark Radford

They call me the ‘Burglar Annoyer’.  It is my mission to secure the things that are precious to you. I provide a free security check if you’re within about a five mile radius of my office in Eltham, but give us a call anyway, as we have a network of locksmiths nationally who are always on hand to help.

I’m going to use this blog to provide advice, tips and stories about some of my jobs over the years, with no reference to the real people of course. Most of the stories could happen to anyone and the purpose of telling them is to raise awareness about security.

My first story is about a friend of mine who is a great lover of technology and music. She has given permission to tell her story. She has a newly refurbished home with lots of home entertainment gadgets, e.g. TVs, amplifiers and speakers. She has recording equipment and lots of guitars. She gave me a call and asked for a free security check before going on holiday, as she was the victim of a burglary in a previous property while on holiday. Her windows were all secure with UPVC locking, double glazed windows. However, her front door was wooden with a standard lock and an additional mortice lock. I asked if she used the mortice lock and she said that she didn’t very often. I asked her to wait on the inside of her property while I went outside and let myself in with a small piece of cardboard and no key.  Needless to say, she asked me to change the lock to something more substantial. It is never my intention to scare people, but it is important that people know how vulnerable their homes are to potential intruders who know the tricks to gain access.

My friend also had her door reinforced and started to use her mortice lock for added security. So that was it, job done and she was able to have her holiday with the peace of mind that she had done as much as possible to secure her property.

Of course if you have no vulnerable areas, we will always tell you and as the security check is free, it’s definitely worthwhile asking us to take a look if you’re within a reasonable distance.

Remember also, if you’ve been a victim of a break in, you can call us to repair the damage and secure your property.

Right then, I’m off to annoy some more burglars. So until next time, stay safe.
